Family Travel Tips I learned from my dad.. Surviving Two Weeks and Two Thousand Miles With Five Kids
By Steve Brister of gayfamilytrips.com

Since my parents were both teachers, they often had more time than money available for vacations during school breaks. This is especially true given that they needed to feed and clothe five kids, and save for our college tuition. Consequently, they made a smart investment when they bought an International Harvester Travel all (precursor to the Suburban and other SUVs) and a Travel Master travel trailer to pull it. This allowed us to take long family road trips on a limited budget….

Benefitting Metro Charities HIV/AIDS programs

Monday, June 23rd and Sunday June 29th at 7:30pm

American Stage Theatre, 163 3rd Street North, downtown St. Petersburg

Suncoast AIDS Theatre Project is celebrating Saint Pete Pride Week by presenting an original comedy by T. Scott Wooten with musical selections by Michael Raabe.  The madcap pairing of Wooten and Raabe recently created local audience favorite productions of WIZARD OF OZ and BLOWN BY THE WIND.  This fun-filled evening will not only bring a smile to your lips but bring awareness and support to People who are suffering with HIV/AIDS.  All monies raised will benefit Metro Charities PWA (People With AIDS) programs and all performers are donating their time and talents to this good cause.

ALL ABOUT STEVE is based on the Bette Davis film, All About Eve where a star, at the height of her career is idolized by a younger actor, Steve (Scott Daniel) who gets to know her as her adoring assistant.  But something sinister is afoot(!) and the fellow show people are all egomaniacs who drift in and out of Margo Channing’s (Matt McGee) life. Can Steve be trusted?  Is Margo in love and enjoying her theatre success?  Who are these other people and what do they want from Margo?  And what’s all that singing about?  You don’t want to miss what happens next… especially with local all-star Matthew McGee at the helm!

Suncoast AIDS Theatre Project is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness, provide assistance, and perpetuate a life of dignity for those affected and infected by HIV and AIDS.

TICKET AND PERFORMANCE INFORMATION:

TRAINING: DEVELOPING HOUSING for
HOMELESS PERSONS AND FAMILIES

All of you know how critical affordable housing is to exiting homelessness.   But do you know there is funding specifically for providing housing for people experiencing homelessness?  Most of the funding over the past 13 years has gone to Miami-Dade because organizations there applied for it.

It’s time for Hillsborough to get some of this funding.  To get involved, begin by attending this workshop.

Maria Pellerin Barcus, CEO

Increasing the supply of affordable rental housing is a critical piece in ending homelessness, but what does it take to be a developer? How does the financing come together and how far in advance do you need to start? Do you need an experienced co-developer and what are the risk and rewards of developing this housing? This training will cover these topics and more including:

* The organizational and financial capacity needed to be a developer
* How the various funding sources are structured
* Property management
* The roles of service providers
* Asset management

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn more about adding rental housing development to your organization’s business lines to provide housing for people experiencing homelessness.

EXCLUSIVE COMIC BOOK PREQUEL FOR UPCOMING MARVEL UNIVERSE LIVE! REVEALS INTRIGUING BACKSTORY AND NEW ELEMENT OF MARVEL LORE – FEATURING CAPTAIN AMERICA, IRON MAN, THOR, SPIDER-MAN AND MORE!

Amazing Prequel Story by Frank Tieri with Art by Miguel Sepulveda and Jay David Ramos Available for a Limited Time with Online Ticket Orders Only

Introduces the Lectro Link – A Remote Power Source for Tony Stark’s Iron Man Suit

That Plays a Key Role in the Live Show

TAMPA, FL – Feld Entertainment, Inc., the world’s leading producer of touring live family entertainment, will put fans right in the middle of one of the most electrifying battles between good and evil ever conceived this summer with Marvel Universe LIVE!, but the story begins even before audiences arrive. Feld Entertainment announced the release of an exclusive prequel comic book created by Marvel that will give audiences insight into the story that will play out in the live arena spectacular, coming to the Tampa Bay Times Forum July 10-13, 2014. With a story by Frank Tieri (Iron Man, Wolverine), illustrations by Miguel Sepulveda (Hulk, The Thanos Imperative), and color art by Jay David Ramos (Uncanny X-Force, Captain America), this complimentary comic book will be available exclusively for a limited time beginning April 16 to those who pre-order tickets.

Marvel Universe LIVE! will captivate audiences with an authentic and original story that brings more than 25 Marvel characters together on one epic quest.  The story is framed around the battle over the Cosmic Cube, the source of ultimate power and one of the most feared and coveted treasures in the Marvel Universe, that has been shattered into pieces by the mighty Thor in order to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. With the pieces scattered across the globe, Thor’s villainous brother, Loki, devises a scheme to clone its powers, inciting a threat that could not only decimate Earth but also obliterate the Universe.

The original comic book will give audiences a look into how Thor gained possession of the Cube and reveals a new item in the Marvel Universe that will play a key role in the live show and the success of its heroes — the Lectro Link. A brand new addition to Marvel lore, the Lectro Link is a wearable tech invention created by Tony Stark and Peter Parker that provides a remote power source for the Iron Man suit.  The Lectro Link is being made available to fans as a unique collectible item that will thrust audiences into the action. Customers can pre-order the Lectro Link online when purchasing tickets or buy it at the show.

“We are excited that even before the live arena action begins, we introduce fans to a piece of all-new Marvel lore: the Lectro Link.  We teamed with Marvel to tell an action-packed story in Marvel Universe LIVE!, and this exclusive prequel comic book gives fans an inside look at the fantastic adventure they’ll experience at our show. It explains the origins of the Lectro Link and sets the stage for the unprecedented spectacular,” said Feld Entertainment Executive Vice President and Marvel Universe LIVE! Producer Juliette Feld.

“Which two vile villains attempted to destroy the Avengers with the Cosmic Cube? Did Tony Stark almost destroy Avengers Tower by attempting to analyze the cosmic construct? How did Loki nearly tear apart Earth’s mightiest heroes from within? Find out the answers to these colossal questions and feast your eyes on some amazing art in the pages of this all-new comic book created exclusively for the audience of Marvel Universe LIVE!” said Marvel Custom Solutions Creative Director Bill Rosemann.

Produced by Feld Entertainment, this first-ever live Marvel tour makes its 85-city debut in July in Tampa, Fla., followed by the world premiere in New York City’s Barclays Center on Wednesday, August 13. The first leg of its North American tour will feature stops in Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Nashville, Miami and Atlanta, among many others.  Tickets for Marvel Universe LIVE! are now on sale.

Step up to the plate for the Tampa Baseball Museum

The Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House needs your help to open in 2014. Home Plate Pavers and limited edition cigar boxes are now available for purchase, which raises funds to rehabilitate the Al Lopez House and develop the exhibits to honor Tampa’s rich baseball heritage.

Help pave the way to preserve Tampa’s baseball heritage

Cement your love of the game in front of the Tampa Baseball Museum with an engraved paver in the shape of home plate.

Inscribe a personal message, memorialize a family member or signify a special occasion on a Home Plate Paver that will become a permanent fixture of the museum and be seen by thousands of visitors each year.

Only 140 pavers are available – secure yours today for $1,000. Pavers ordered by May 15 will be among the first placed in Home Plate Walk when installation begins in June.

Honor Cigar City’s influence on baseball

Cigar aficionados will love one of the limited edition Tampa Baseball Museum cigar boxes. Only 500 of these black lacquered wood cigar boxes emblazoned with the Tampa Baseball Museum logo will be produced.

Each box is filled with 10 premium Rocky Patel Sumatra Honduran Blend cigars.

Own a piece of Cigar City’s baseball heritage for only $100.

All proceeds from the pavers and cigar boxes will help build the Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House. From Little League to Major League, the museum will preserve, honor and celebrate Tampa’s historic role in the game of baseball.

For more information or to purchase one of these products, call (813) 247-1434 or visit the Tampa Baseball Museum website.

The Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House is being developed by the Ybor City Museum Society, a nonprofit organization that preserves and promotes Ybor City’s cultural heritage and supports the Ybor City Museum State Park.
