Want to Help?  2014 All Hallows Ball …How to help
Now that all the invitations have been mailed many of you have been writing in and asking how you can help ensure the success and continuation of the party. There are two specific ways you can help this year:
  • Help build decorations:
Your hosts are planning another spectacular party for you again this year. There are many decorations that have been designed to transform MOSI into our Dystopia! Your hosts will be busy on multiple weekends between now and the night of the party cutting, painting and assembling all the goodies. If you’re interested in volunteering to assist with the painting and assembly, you may sign up to do so by completing the volunteer form by Clicking Here.
  • Help the night of the party:
No costume? Then become a staff volunteer!  Volunteers are needed the night of the party to help direct guests, ensure the stairways are kept clear, check tickets and assist with general crowd control. Shifts will be approximately 1.5 hours each. You will be provided with an official “All Hallows Masquerade Ball Volunteer” T-shirt which is yours to keep and wear the entire night of the party. Everyone will know that YOU helped out!  If you think that you may enjoy helping in this capacity then Click Here! Some of your hosts were volunteers at first! Please respond no later than October 15th. But why not do it right now?!?

That’s all for now. More to come soon…

The Ybor School of Visual and Performing Arts Gallery presents

Rebecca Sexton Larson and Matt Larson
“An Alternative Mood”
August 21 – September 25, 2014

Artists’ Reception
Thursday, September 11, 4:30-8:00pm
Gallery Talk 6:15 pm
Boxfotos Airstream Tours 7:00 pm

Rebecca Sexton Larson and Matt Larson present an exhibition of historic photo processes including salt print, bromoil and collodion works. In addition, the artists will showcase their collaborative mobile studio project, the Boxfotos Airstream on the Ybor Campus the night of the opening.

Matt Larson has been working and playing with plastic toy cameras since the mid-90s. His affinity for toy cameras ignited as result of professional burnout. Thirty years in to his professional photography career, he discovered the joy of playing with simple, stress free toy cameras. Upon seeing the very first roll of images from his 1970 plastic Diana camera, he was hooked and for the first time in his career, began making personal, fine art images. Larson says, “It has taken me almost four decades to return to those early childhood years when I would play with the camera, than merely interact with it on a technical level. Ironically, the tool [the camera] that was given to me by an adult when I was young, I’m just now learning to play with.” Larson currently works in the wet plate collodion and salt print processes. His work is in numerous public and private collections, as well as in the collections of the Tampa Museum of Art and the Polk Museum of Art. For more information, visit his website at http://ToyCameraPlay.com
Rebecca Sexton Larson is a Tampa based studio artist working with historic photographic processes. She graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in Fine Arts and a degree in Mass Communications. She was awarded Florida Individual Artist Fellowships in 1998, 2002, and 2008. In 2006, she received an Artist Enhancement Grant from the State of Florida and, in 2005, was commissioned by the City of Tampa to be Photographer Laureate for a year. During the past 20 years, Sexton Larson has taught, lectured and exhibited work nationally at various arts institutions and organizations. Sexton Larson’s photographs are in numerous major collections throughout the country, including: Polaroid, Progressive Corporate Art, Graham Nash (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young), Holland and Knight Law Firm, Polk Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts and the Tampa Museum of Art. Most recently her work appears in the book Poetics of Light by Eric Renner and Nancy Spencer. For more information, visit Sexton Larson’s website at http://SextonLarson.com, or her photo blog at http://sextonlarson.tumblr.com.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

M.A.D. THEATRE OF TAMPA ANNOUNCES 2014-2015 SEASON

July 31, 2014 – Today, m.a.d. Theatre of Tampa is proud to announce their 2014-2015 season.

The Rocky Horror Show, October 2 – 18, 2014 | Direction by Christen Petitt Hailey

With music, lyrics and a book by Richard O’Brien, this show is a humorous tribute to the science fiction and b movie horror films of the late 1940s to the early 1970s. The musical tells the story of a newly engaged couple who are swept into the world of Dr. Frank N. Furter, a self-proclaimed transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania. This musical is best known from its adaptation into the 1975 cult film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Our production stars Justin Batten as Frank N. Furter, and Ian Burns and Allison Novak as Brad and Janet and is directed by 2013 Creative Loafing Reader’s Pick for Best Local Playwright, Christen Hailey.

Rent, February 5 – 21, 2015 | Direction by Tony Gilkinson

This Tony award winner for Best Musical, with music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson, is based on Giacomo Puccini’s opera La Bohème. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York City’s Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. We are excited to welcome back director Tony Gilkinson after his award-winning productions of Avenue Q: The Musical, Nunsense A-Men! and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown with m.a.d. Theatre of Tampa.

The Great American Trailer Park Musical, June 5 – 21, 2015 | Director to be Announced

Written by David Nehls and Betsy Kelso, this two-act musical comedy explores the relationships between the tenants of the Armadillo Acres Trailer Park in Stark, Florida, particularly between Pippi, the ‘stripper on the run,’ the Dr. Phil loving, agoraphobic Jeannie, and Jeannie’s tollbooth collector husband, Norbert. It was performed in the first annual New York Music Theater Festival in 2004 before making its off-Broadway debut on September 27, 2005.

m.a.d Theatre of Tampa, resident theatre company at the David A. Straz Center of the Performing Arts, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Our volunteer-based Board of Directors welcomes newcomers in all areas of performance. Our goal is to produce shows that make you laugh and think, while honoring diversity in our shows by inviting the culturally expanding community to celebrate their talent on the stage or to be a member of the audience. Since we are a non-equity theatre company, our performers volunteer countless hours rehearsing and preparing our productions. Recent successes include award winning productions of bare: a pop opera, Nunsense A-Men!, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and the sold-out run of Avenue Q: The Musical.

Hi Guys,
We are considering putting together a Kayak Trip on the Weeki Wachee River and then grabbing a bite to eat at Nellies. However, we must have a specific number of people willing to join us to make the event happen.

The details of this event are as follows:

Saturday September 13th at 10:30 am.

The trip would last at least 3 up to 4 hours and may be longer depending on how slowly we go down the river and how many stops we make.  We would begin the trip at 10:30 am and that means everyone has to be at the event by 10:30 am.  We will not be able to wait for late arrivals.

If you plan to attend the cost of a single kayak is $ 30 dollars and a tandem kayak is $ 35.

You must be willing to A. Call and Reserve your own Kayak. There will be a specific deadline for reservations.

And B. Email us and let us know you reserved your Kayak. We need to be aware of who is going so we can do this as a group.

We will post the website with all the information necessary to make a reservation once we know if enough people are interested.  So, if anyone is interested in joining us in this type of event, please email us at outabouttampabay@gmail.com  by no later than Friday August 8th and we will collect a count and then advise if we can schedule this event for the group.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us make this fun event a possibility.

Thank You,

Eric

Co-Founder of Out & About Tampabay
