The Great Migration
The best part about going to a World Pride Conference is talking with other Prides. At the last conference people were talking about “The Great Migration.” I did not realize that other people were noticing it too. Our transgender community is now in a “Great Migration.” Not feeling safe in their current states, (like Florida.) They are all leaving for states that are becoming a sanctuary for gender-affirming care. The top 5 states are; Washington State, Colorado, Washington, D.C., California & Minnesota. More states are currently working on gender-affirming care in the Northeast and West Coast.
One Giant Step Forward for Ybor City
This week was the grand opening of La Union in Ybor City. This high-end luxury apartment complex is the 1st of 18 to be built in the new Gasworks area of Ybor City. We are not only looking forward to these new apartment homes but to the fun people that will enjoy this upscale lifestyle. FYI https://www.launionliving.com/

You Just Can Not Make This Up
We were at World InterPride Conference in Medellin, Colombia. One night the hosts arraigned a night tour of the beautiful City. At the end of the night the fun Drag Queen host asked if the group would like to stop at a Gay Bar. Of course, the answer was YES! The club was located in the entertainment district. It was an open-air club with very beautiful artworks and packed with fun people. They had us all seated at small cocktail tables before the show. Then to our surprise, the Drag Queen Host was ours from the bus. She asked if there were any Queer Men in the House? YAAAAA Are there any Queen Lesbians in the House? YAAAA Then says “We have 2 senior citizens in the house! YAAAA In Medellin we love old people!!! They then turn the spot light on us. I just leaned over and asked my friend “how do you say B*tch in Spanish?” LMAO All is good. I bet they were wish that when they are our age, they too will be out at a club at 1AM. La Perra (Spanish for B*tch)

You Just Can Not Make This Up
We were flying home from the InterPride World Conference in Medellin, Colombia. Our flight left at 6AM. We were told to be there 3 hours before the flight. So that makes it 3AM. Needed to leave the hotel by 2AM. Up and ready at 1AM. The fun party the night before went until 11:30PM. So, you guessed it, we just stayed up. Arriving at the airport at 3AM and there was already a line for our flight. Boarding started at 5AM. As we entered the plane there were pillows and blankets waiting for us. The 3-hour flight to Miami would be nape time for us. It looked like many others on the flight had also stayed up all night and we all quickly fell asleep. Then at 6AM there was an announcement, there were working on the plane and we would leave soon. 7:30 AM and announced that they were almost done but needed to turn the a/c and electrical off to finish. 8AM the lights turn back on and we are told to disembark the plane. Here is the funny part…. So many people were hard asleep that the fight crew had to shake people to wake them up!!! Must have thought what a smooth flight and we are here. Wrong!!!! the plane never left the gate. Off the plane and since we do not speak Spanish, we followed the crowed to a different gate. Then at 9:30 the crowed moved again. This time back to the original plane. 10AM, we left for Miami YAAAAA

The Whole World is Watching
Last week we (Mark & Carrie) were proud to represent Tamp PRIDE at The InterPride World Conference in Medellin, Colombia. InterPride is a global network of over 550+ Pride organizations from 70+ countries, connecting and coordinating the efforts of all Prides on every continent. InterPride was granted Consultative Status at the United Nations in June 2023. InterPride uplifts the voices of Pride organizers and member organizations through attending UN meetings and gatherings, consulting UN mechanisms, and delivering written statements and oral presentations.
This was the first time there was a InterPride conference in South America. Over the 5-day conference there were many workshops and caucus meetings during the daytime. At night we networked with Prides from around the world. The very 1st question from ever other prides was “What’s going on with the election in the United States?” Around the world the election in on BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera and more almost every hour. Many people think the hate speech in USA is one of the reasons hate speech in their own countries is on the rise.
On a positive note. The number of Pride Celebrations around the world is on the rise. In Brazil, South American there were over 124+ Pride celebrations this past year.
InterPride besides all the year-round work, they indorse, support, and guide their “World Pride” events. At the conference 4 Pride organizations did presentations to host future World Pride Events.

On Saturday, November 2, La Union, Gasworx’s first residence, will officially open with a grand opening party. The event will include a ribbon cutting, open house, and more.
