New Hate & Discrimination Continue
We have lived our entire adult lives fighting LGBT Hate & Discrimination. We have been called every name possible and accused of many wrong things, we have never done. Just a couple years ago we went before the Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners to promote GaYBOR Days. This was a time Ybor City businesses closed its doors for the summer 4th of July celebration week. We handed the commissioners the fliers.
In front of everybody in the room one of the commissioners yelled, “How dare you bring this perverted pornographic material into our chambers!!!” There were photos of same sex couples holding hands on the pamphlets.
People are always coming to us asking for help with being discriminated against or job termination because they were gay. Just this week a friend who was legally married to his partner in Florida, lost his husband and was blatantly discriminated at a Tampa Cemetery and also a local veterinarian.
He was told by one of the cemetery company administrators,” You don’t have any rights because gay marriage is against the law in Florida!” He felt so shockingly astounded and hurtfully shamed by those comments in a time of mourning.
Our whole lives we have been Democrats. Under the democratic leadership we gained many new human rights, including the national right of LGBT marriage.
As business owners and champions we consider ourselves to be fiscal conservatives with liberal social values. We do have friends in the Republican Party who share our same values.
Today in the world of Facebook there is a new strange hate-discrimination. When we post a pro Hillary for President. The Republican LGBT come attacking so very viciously. WHY? The Republican Platform is the most anti LGBT in History. The only choice for us to move forward is by voting Hillary and many of our Republican friends do agree.
The best part about Facebook is that we can block these mean people forever. Unfortunately these are the same people who when discriminated against will come running to us for help. Just enjoy the right to go out and vote!

Kiwanis Club of Tampa “Chicken Barbecue Dinner”
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
For the past 48 years, the Kiwanis Club of Tampa has sponsored one major annual fundraiser – a “Chicken Barbecue Dinner” for the benefit of many charitable organizations in this area. This year’s event will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016, between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. We need your support to continue this very worthwhile tradition and offer you three (3) options to consider. This year, we are giving supporters the option of purchasing meals for themselves or their staff; purchasing meals to be donated; or give a donation straight to the Tampa Kiwanis Foundation as a BBQ Sponsor.
How to participate as a BBQ sponsor: You or your company can contribute directly any amount to the Tampa Kiwanis Foundation (a 501c3) to increase the reach of the BBQ dollars we earn. Please note on your check “BBQ Sponsor.”
How to participate as a BBQ Customer: Each barbeque ticket is $10.00. With each ticket, you are supporting some very worthwhile neighborhood causes and the one-half a barbecue chicken, potato chips, cookie and bread are a good deal for $10.00! Many businesses purchase BBQ meals for their employees. We offer free delivery for 25 or more meals, just in case that helps in your decision making. If delivery is not desired, details on when and where to pick up your BBQ chicken dinners are on the ticket. Please note on your check “BBQ Dinners.”
How to participate as a BBQ Meal Donor: Like many in the past, you can purchase meals and donate them to an area charity like Faith Café, Trinity Café, Metropolitan Ministries, or Meals on Wheels. Please note on your check “BBQ Meal Donations to [charity name]” so we can make sure the meals get to the right group.
Where does the money go? In 2015, the Tampa Kiwanis Foundation gave more than $129,900 back to our local community in grants to local charities, ramps for the disabled, Easter Baskets and Christmas Stockings for the senior centers of Hillsborough County and sponsored local service leadership programs at the USF (Circle K), nine high schools (Key Clubs), and seven elementary schools (Terrific Kids). In addition, the Kiwanis Club of Tampa hosted the annual Children’s Christmas Party for approximately 150 of Hillsborough County’s most vulnerable children, sponsored two “back to school” immunization events (Be Wise Immunize) each serving more than 500 families and awarded $32,000 in scholarships for local students. This fiscal year (2016) I can share that the Tampa Kiwanis Foundation has reinvested more than $86,402 back into our community as of June 30, 2016 in grants to local charities, scholarships to students, ramps, senior center support and we are not even done! It is people like you that make it happen and I hope you will join us.
Where to pick up the meals? You can pick up meals between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at Raymond James Stadium or between 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at One Mack-Cali Building (501 E. Kennedy Blvd. at the corner of Morgan St.). For those of you in or near Ybor City, you can schedule pick at my office (Ybor Building, Room 127, 2001 N. 14th Street Tampa 33605).
Please let me know by Friday, October 7th so we can confirm the right amount of meals to prepare. Please make your check made payable to the Tampa Kiwanis Foundation. Checks can be sent to me (2112 N. 15th St. Tampa 33605) or mailed to P.O. Box 22154 Tampa, FL 33622-2154. If you don’t think your check will be received by October 7th, just let me know so you get properly recorded. Either way, you will receive a thank you letter that can be used for tax purposes.
Thank you in advance for whatever you can do this year. For those of you who have supported this fund-raiser in the past, thanks again!
Sincerely,
Shawn

Potatoes From Wisconsin
A wide range and variety of potatoes are grown in Wisconsin. Russet, White, Red, Yellow, Fingerling, Purple & Blue. I am just returning to where potatoes are a mainstay in the Central Wisconsin marketplace, the Golden Sands area in Plover, Wisconsin.
Not unlike the cheese heads potato heads to are gear for the Dairy state. Over 200,000 acres of potatoes are grown in the state. A great challenge to the local dairy farmers. There is a lot of great healthy and is a nutritional source of food.
Some interesting facts… Potatoes are the 4th largest food crop in the world and in 1995 potatoes were the first vegetable to be grown in space.
Here are some of my pics of the harvesting of spuds in the Golden Sands area.
