Roosters of Ybor
The GaYBOR District Coalition is partnering with Hillsborough Community College Ybor City for a Student Art Competition painting roosters!. But his isn’t your normal partnering. The competition will also have a formal Gallery Opening Party at HCC Ybor City Campus Main Gallery. A public Rooster Art Display will be at a number of Ybor City businesses throughout May thru June 10. To compliment the art event a Scavenger Hunt Game is also occurring to spot the colorfully painted roosters. Prizes are awarded for a completed Game Card.
And finally there will be the Rooster Silent Auction Benefit, June 13th at Bradley’s on 7th.
In total 10 HCC selected art students will be taking part with winner receiving Free tuition to HCC Ybor. The tuition voucher will be paid by GaYBOR and participating partners. Project coordinator, Rich Kerin from GDC is also scheduled to be on a hosts of local TV shows and media invitations.
” This is another wonderful event GaYBOR sponsored and partnership with community businesses. Included are Centro Ybor, HCC Ybor City, Tampa Arts Council, Hotspots Magazine, MC Film, Promo Printing Group and Hamburger Mary’s.“ he commented. “Roosters are a part of Ybor.”
A few years ago GaYBOR had done another community event, ‘The Piano’s of Ybor’ where bought, local artists painted and displayed throughout Ybor before being auctioned off. The outside pianos were on the Ybor streets for 2 months and anyone could walk up and play them. The GaYBOR/ Ybor City event made national and international news with thousands of people coming to play the famous art painted pianos. In the 2 months outside none of the pianos where stolen, marred, or anything broken.

“Easter Eggs” Fierce Competition at Bradley’s
Over twenty contestants entered to win bragging rights of Bradley’s on 7th Annual Easter Egg Competition. With great creative minds the magical eggs transformed into advertising themes, bizarre creatures, funny bunnies and TEACUP? Yes, there was a profile composed by local bartender and artist Peter B.
Winners of this years challenge were 1st Place Chou Chou Guilder, 2nd Place Enrique Hernandez and 3rd Place to Miss Alexis Mae Perry.
