Fusion Dance Company honors Pulse victims with tribute at Tampa Pride Festival
Tampa, Fla. (March 7, 2017) – When 49 people were gunned down at the Pulse Night Club in Orlando, Tampa Bay-area choreographer Jay Dilley was personally impacted. Dilley still remembers the texts messages flooding his phone on June 12, 2016, from friends who were eyewitness to the largest massacre to unfold on U.S. soil. Dilley, who choreographs for Fusion Dance Company in Palm Harbor, will honor the friends he lost that night during the March 25 Tampa Pride Festival in Ybor City when the studio’s Teen Elite Team performs a tribute to Pulse.
“Its personal tragedy that cost the lives of people I knew and miss,” Dilley said. “This is more than a dance number. This is a memorial and a way to honor the innocent people who never got to go home that night and those who will forever have to live with this horrible experience.”
Fusion Dance Company debuted Dilley’s Pulse choreography in February at Dance America. The studio’s Pulse tribute won Overall High Scoring Dance for the entire competition and received the Judge’s Choice award for choreography. Soon after the competition, the studio showcased the powerful tribute for parents and friends of the studio That’s where a friend of Dilley’s was so moved by the performance that she shared her experience with the founder of Tampa Pride, leading to the invitation for the team to perform on March 25.
“Jay creates choreography with true meaning that gives everyone goosebumps,” said Diana Griffin, owner of Fusion Dance Company. “He gets these girls to make people feel the intensity of his choreography and this resonates with the audience.”
The Third Annual Tampa Pride Festival and Parade will honor the 49 killed and 53 injured during the Pulse massacre with a special tribute at 12 p.m. at Centro Ybor. The Fusion Dance Company will be one of several acts remembering the tragedy as survivors and loved ones of those who died look on. The team will then be part of the Pulse Memorial Float during the parade on 7th Avenue.

Obituary
Greg Hechar
January 22, 1960 – March 9, 2017
Below is his official obituary. Just as Greg would like, It made us smile.
Henchar, Gregory Mark, 57, of Largo, entered into eternal rest after a valiant battle with leukemia, and the thought of Trump being president for the next 4 years. Greg was born January 22, 1960 to the late Ferdinand A. and Mary (Berko) Henchar in Pittsburgh, PA. Greg is survived by his life partner, of 28 years, Victor Lopez. furbabies; Mija, Gaby, and Sadee. Greg is also survived by his sister; Judith (Frank) Conners, brothers; Frederick (Pam) Henchar and Wayne (Sandy) Henchar, and many nieces and nephews.
Greg met the love of his life, Victor, while Victor was stationed in Norfolk, VA with the Navy. Greg would have to stay back while Victor was transferred to Saudi Arabia for 5 months. Greg had many passions in life, but none like he did for the 4 legged fur babies. Greg was an activist for many pet rescue groups. He was surely met at the Rainbow Bridge by his dogs Bambi, Fergie (Dutchess of Baltimore), Lucy, Dharma, and Teca. Those who knew Greg, knew Greg had a love of life. Greg was always there to be the voice of those who could not speak for themselves. Greg and Victor were the creators and owners of Gay Safe Haven GSHRadio and Rainbow411.com. He was a pillar of the LGBT community and gained respect of everyone who met him. He will missed by everyone who knew him. A Celebration of Greg’s Life will be April 23, 2017 at the Flamingo Resort in St. Petersburg. To honor our dear friend, be the love you want to find in the world. Pay it forward! Until we meet again Blanche!
