Tampa NEW Riverwalk Finally Opens
The Downtown Tampa Riverwalk that took 6 Tampa mayors terms to start and finish is completed. The 1.8 mile walkway along the Hillsborough River and the Garrison in Channelside to Curtis Hixon Park had its dedication Friday, March 27 in thunderous rainy clouds.
An additional 1/2 mile will be built on the Riverwalk’s north trail up to the newly built Water Works Park. This will be a great walking, strolling, viewing walkway in the center of the downtown district. A big hit for locals and visitors alike.
Eight Tampa Mayors were there for the ribbon cutting ceremony. Mayor Bob Buckhorn and the other five mayors all cut the new beginnings ribbon.
The start and idea of the Riverwalk Park was started under the 1975 leadership of Mayor Bill Poe. Since then 5 mayors helped give a boost and flavor of the city river front walkway.
The previous Tampa mayors included Bill Poe, Dick Greco, Sandy Friedman, Bob Martinez, Pam Iorio and current Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn were all in attendance for the big event.
