PRIDE in Beijing
We were honored to be invited Gay Ambassadors delegation from the U.S. to China back in 2001.  We were invited by the Chinese government to show of there open diversity in China.  The gay group delegation members came from Ft Lauderdale, Washington, DC, Atlanta and us from Tampa.
We came upon this new gay bar that just had opened in the outskirts expansion of Beijing.
Our tour guide stayed with us but asked as he called us, “Boys in the band, how do you know this place is gay?”
As we ventured into new adventures experiencing the incredible Great Wall of China, the first openly performed Gay play perfrormed in Beijing, meeting the young Gay Chinese movie director, Zhang Yuan of historic controversial 1996 film, “East Palace West Palace” and witnessing a first gay marriage ceremony  is in the Chinese Emperor’s Forbidden City.
Rev. Grant Ford from Ft Lauderdale Sunshine Cathedral MCC and others were among the contingent.
Super ‘Gay’ Bowl
Who would of thought? Who wouldn’t have thought is really the question. Gays are in love watching the Super Bowl Show? You betcha. This is one of the Gayest times of the winter season and it is nationally huge!  A get together of gay comrades ( & gay comradees) sitting around the big flat screen cheering on the future Super Bowl Football Champions. All can’t wait for the most ‘Reach out of the Box’ Super Bowl Commercials.
We were invited  in the past to a huge number of Super Bowl parties for years all around Tampa Bay. Be the host Women or Guys, the parties are a huge friendly football competition festivity. The game, the food, the party, the invitees but maybe the biggest hit is the singing celebrity entertaining  ‘Super Half Time Concert’ show!
What is on the ‘Half Time’ menu this year? Have you not ever gone to a Gay Party were the food isn’t out of this world fabulous? If you are bringing a dish to share there are so many great recipes inside your head already. Share them!
Did you ever notice, most of the women’s hosting parties always include buckets of Colonel Sanders KFC and guys always platters of chicken wings. Otherwise the preparation of the huge game day party feast is fancy prepared dishes including Food Network TV’s famed icon Ina Garten’sBarefoot Contessa Show Dishes, a lot of cheese,  everyone cravings assorted chicken wings, spicy hand made sauce ribs, homemade chili, Slow cooker Shredded BBQ, pork, 7 layer taco dips, hot dogs (hmmm), a large variety of appetizers with names one can hardly pronounce, humus and of course the nachos with the crazy Velveeta & Ro-Tel Chili dip. Oh don’t forget the variety of craft beer & Mich Ultra choices!
Enjoy the Super Bowl game, the home or bar parties, the new & reuniting with old friends gathering then hold your breath as singing sensation Super Star Katy Perry Half Time will take charge in center field for her memorized Super Bowl Sunday Entertainment unforgettable performance!
Since we don’t have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the playoffs enjoy the Annual American Sunday Sacred Sports Holiday, Super Bowl.
In the end we will have another famed champion.  New England Patriots or the Seattle Seahawks will be the 2015 Football trophied winner on Feb 1st.
Let us know about your traditions for Super Bowl.
Super Bowl Half Time Recipe(s)

Easy Mediterranean Roasted Figs and Prosciutto

Photo: Quentin Bacon

20 large fresh ripe figs
20 thin slices Italian prosciutto (about 8 ounces)
Virgin olive oil

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.

Snip the hard stems off the figs and cut the figs in half lengthwise through the stem. With a small sharp knife, cut the prosciutto lengthwise into 2 inch-wide strips. Wrap a strip of prosciutto around the center of each fig half, with the ends overlapping. Brush with olive oil and arrange cut side up on a baking pan.

Roast the figs for 10 minutes, until the prosciutto is a little crisp and the figs are warmed through. Serve warm.

Slow Cooker BBQ Pulled Pork
This is a very easy recipe we love to make. Add a squeeze of 1/2 lemon before cooking to the pork. Mark always asks for more!
  • 1 (5 pound) pork butt roast
  • 2 teaspoons seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can beer
  •
1 (12 ounce) bottle barbeque sauce (such as Sweet Baby Ray’s) or any of your own favorites
    1 Lemon, 1/2 beginning & 1/2 squeeze after cooked
  1. Set the slow cooker to High.
  2. Place the pork in the slow cooker. Season top of pork with salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Pour beer into the bottom of the slow cooker and place the lid on the slow cooker crock.
  3. Cook pork on High for 1 hour. Reduce slow cooker heat to Low and cook for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  4. Remove pork from the slow cooker and shred with two forks. Discard juices and rinse out slow cooker crock. Return shredded pork to slow cooker and stir barbeque sauce into pork. Squeeze in 2nd 1/2 lemon.
  5. Cook on Medium for 1 hour.
