A stunning comedy about the redemptive power of friendship
Superior Donuts getting rave reviews!!!!!Rave reviews for Stageworks’ production of Superior Donuts, now through October 26.
A stellar cast leads us through an extraordinary journey, in this stunning new comedy from the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning author of August: Osage County.
Jim Wicker makes you cry, Richard Coppinger makes you laugh, and Blake High senior Travis Brown makes you sizzle with an electrifying performance that everyone is talking about.
This play takes every stereotype you know, and turns them upside down. You’ll root for timid police officer Roxanne Fay, her Trekkie partner Joshua Goff, and the wild homeless woman portrayed by Dawn Truax. Peter Konowicz and Michael Mekus are eerily compelling gangsters, and Tim Guerierri surprises as a guy who’s not your standard Russian goon. Letts’ provocative comedy turns up the heat on the challenges of embracing the past and the redemptive power of friendship.
Favorite Tampa Landmarks with Linda Saul-SenaSuperior Donuts is a love song to a lost Chicago. After the 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday, October 19 Creative Loafing columnist Linda Saul-Sena and Rodney Kite-Powell of the Tampa Bay History Center will host a conversation about favorite Tampa landmarks, those long gone and those still grooving.
Audience members can share their favorite Tampa landmarks as we view archival photos of lovely long-lost buildings in our city. It’ll be a lively conversation, celebrating Tampa and remembering our history.
If you haven’t visited the wonderful Tampa Bay History Center yet, it’s 3 minutes away from Stageworks – make some time to check it out. . . http://tampabayhistorycenter.org/
I hope you spent a delightful summer getting together with family and friends. The sweltering Tampa heat has not discouraged Una Voce from looking ahead to our Holiday 2014 concert, entitled Broadway Lights, Holiday Nights! We’ve been preparing all summer, selecting music and writing the script, so that things were in place when our rehearsals started up again in August. Singing, “Let It Snow” when it’s 95 degrees in the shade is certainly a little confusing, but that’s Florida!
After the run of the Broadway Lights, Holiday Nights performances, Una Voce will be saying good-bye to Artistic Director Justin Havard, I am sad to report. The decision to leave the Chorale was Justin’s to make; we wish him the very best in his future musical endeavors.
Una Voce recently updated its mission statement to proudly declare: We Celebrate the Inherent Dignity of All People through Excellence in Men’s Choral Music. To that end, the Chorale welcomes talented, passionate individuals with creative vision and the leadership skills necessary to bring those visions to the stage to apply.
The full job description and application instructions can be found on our website
