The best movie theater ever, hands down is Centro Ybor Muvico 20!!! Now offering these crazy fun chairs, that you can have for an additional fee, that move and come alive to the movie. The new Superman star Henry Cavill was HOT! The first half of the film was great. the second half was a little slow. More of a Super Heroes movie instead of Superman movie. It seamed like there were 3 ending to the film too. BUT did we mention Super Man was HOT?!?!?!?! We are looking forward to more films with Henry Cavvill, Especially the shirtless ones! Now off to Hi- Ho Silver, away !! Wink Wink .

The many cruise ships bring a lot of passengers to Tampa. They also bring a lot of fun crew members too. The crew members like to jump on the streetcar and visit GaYBOR/Ybor City. Many good friends are made over the season. When the Norwegian Cruise Lines, “Star” cruise ship went to Boston for the summer, she took some great friends with her. Last week we had a fantastic surprise!!! Where do you think the crew members go when they are on vacation? They flew from Boston to Tampa for their vacation!!! Of all the ports they visited this year Tampa was their favorite. The group told us. GaYBOR has the friendliest people and the most fun places to party.
Another surprise in the cruise lines is that Carnival Cruise Lines is changing cruise ships that dock at the Tampa Port. Carnival’s newer and bigger Pride cruise ship will be replacing Carnivals Legend this fall!
GREAT JOB EVERYBODY!!! Viva La GaYBOR!!!
Pam Iorio, In The House
We had a surprise meeting with the former Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio at the fantastic new Chinese restaurant, Yummy House on Hillsborough Ave. The temp appointed fix CEO for the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County was happy and that all is now well with the board and the new Executive Director Kelley Parris. “She will do a great job.” she offered.
The area on East Hillsborough Ave has many fond memories to the former Tampa mayor. She graduated from King H.S. just a few blocks from the modernized replotted and developed section.
” This was a vacant warehouse distribution district that needed to be redeveloped for the community. I’m so proud to see all the positive changes with commerce, business and residential housing in this particular area, that happened under my administration as Tampa’s Mayor.” she touted.
We introduced our Italian friend, Lenny to the former madam mayor and he made mention of his opening a new restaurant that is coming to Ybor City. “We make everything homemade including our famous Italian gelato! ” Lenny chimed in which Pam said,” Count me in. I love gelato.”
She was so interested and excited about the recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings in favor of GLBT rights and of the new mayors job performance, Mayor Bob Buckhorn. Her comments were heartfelt by all three of us guys as she graciously spoke.
We hear, ” Pam for Governor” and “Iorio for Senate” talk all around Tampa Bay and elsewhere. What are your future political plans? Shrugging she just smiled. But we know that something is… going on!

July 4th is a very special holiday to remember our American history, a day of celebration, outdoor get togethers with friends and family, fireworks and for some becoming naturalized American citizens. On the 4th this year at the Tampa Bay History Center on the Riverwalk in downtown Tampa, Mayor Bob Buckhorn in a ceremony welcomed 66 new American citizens to our community and our country.
We want to recognize and congratulate new American naturalized citizens and owners of New York, New York Pizza chain ( the best around), Freddy, wife Marta and sons. Welcome fellow Americans.
Changes are still in the works for Georgie’s Alibi in St. Pete. After a major remodeling the trendy local brew hangout is changing its hours and menu items! Now open at 5 PM and don’t look for the 2-4-1 steak night or their famous Reuben sandwiches anymore. They’re gone!
Hamburger Mary’s owner Kurt King has been in and out of the hospital for the past couple of weeks. Get well. Uncle Tom also has been in the hospital with a heart artery bypass. Uncle Tom has worked with us for 15 years and often works on Fridays at MC FILM. He is on the cardiac floor at Zephyrhill’s Hospital recovering. Continue getting well & get better soon!
During the mid summer holiday a lot of GaYBOR/ Ybor City businesses are remodeling, taking a vacation break and even changing names. A multi-million dollar renovation is undergoing at Hampton Inn & Suites with completion in September. Hampton Inn & Suites Ybor was recently sold with new ownership. A whole new majestic interior look with a new renovated kitchen including new stoves at Bernini’s. Their new Sunday brunches will sparkle more than your palette. La Terrazza Restaurant owners are on their annual vacation visiting homeland Italy for a month, What was, Roma’s Pizza have new owners calling it Gino’s Pizza & Brew opening soon.
The scaffolding in front of the old CZAR building on 7th removing all the stucco returning it back to original brick is quite the change. Renovations are also gutting the inside to make way for a planned 3 story office setting instead of the past known night clubs including the infamous gay clubs; El Goya, Tracks, Pleasuredome and most recent CZAR. Originally it was the historic Hotel De La Havana built in 1887 and burned down in the Great Ybor Fire of 1891. The famous and oldest Tampa Restaurant, Las Novedades Cafe was located in the Latin Quarter hotel and rebuilt in 1892.
Another Newspaper from Texas contacted the Hillsborough Convention Bureau to do a national story on the growing GaYBOR District in historic Ybor City. Austin Chronicle Newspaper Senior Features Editor, Kate Messer interviewed and talked with over a dozen business owners in the GLBTA district last weekend inquiring how the fairly new GLBTA renaissance to the barrio has changed and improved their business in the historic area of Tampa. And how has it changed Tampa in general?
So goes it in the 1st weeks of July in hot & touristy Ybor.
